Sloane, our therapy dog.
Studies have proven that therapy dogs can influence the behaviour, safety, social interaction independent functioning, companionship and language development of children with autism.
We did a big fundraising Midsummer Lunch last June to raise the funds to get our own school therapy dog for the first time. At the end of August, thanks to the support of My Canine Companion, we were delighted to welcome Sloane-a beautiful Irish Doodle to Sonas. Anne, Purple class teacher, is Sloane's primary carer and has been so committed by attending training with her from the start. Sloane has settled in so well with us and enjoys greeting the children every morning and spending time in the school' and has been especially helpful to those children who have difficulties transitioning. She has been a great addition to our team! |
